This is quite the recorded tour-de-force for what in essence is a studio band, replete with wide geographical distribution. On the strength of this recording, I hope that they are encouraged to go back into the studio at least a second time, for I think they have a lot to say about various directions that old-time music can be taken today.

The Improbabillies are five seasoned old time players, some with long histories of stretching the boundaries of their chosen genre. They do not let us down with this release. They reflect the progressive ilk that includes the Heart Beats, The Red Hots, the Chicken Chokers, and The Horse Flies. In fact, June Drucker (bass), Grant Dermody (harmonica) and Richie Stearns (banjo), are names that fans of these bands will recognize. Add the fiddling of Scott Meyer and the scorching guitar of Forrest Gibson, and you have one on-fire band. Besides the groove of the fiddle numbers, we get some powerful vocals that owe more to the blues than old time. The last cut is a harmonica show stopper where Grant lets us know without a doubt that he knows the blues. They all do.

If you like your old time with a twist, you'll find a lot to like here. The band takes old time for a new spin. There are fourteen cuts of raw powered high energy music that rides the edge, but never crosses the line. They bring the soul of the mountains and marry it to the blues of the delta. What a ride!

"...good old time music: good grooving fiddle, wicked percolating banjo, fine high singing, big, rich and hot harmonicating, pumping bass and pistol snapping guitar. You're gonna find the blues here too. This is old-time music that's drenched in the blues. This is music that makes you feel something."
- Mark Graham.

The Victory Review says: ...extremely well played - from traditional old-time, through the blues/old-time fusion to some downright contemporary/progressive sonority... highly rhythmic, yet melodic, which had my daughters percolating around the house...

The Improbabillies... "When Tommy Jarrel meets Willie Dixon at Rene' Magritte's house...." This album is strong, strange, driven and driving. Some of the best fiddle, harmonica, banjo, bass and guitar you'll find anywhere.... old time-blues... blues-oldtime... old blues-time... bluestime... whatever. This is the stuff!
- Bob Banghart
A refreshing new face in the old-time music genre. Soulfully performed and wonderfully produced. 3 Thumbs up!
